How do the treatments work?

Blue light acne treatment is a non-invasive procedure that uses light in the blue wavelength range of 405-420 nm to kill the Propionobacterium acnes or P. acnes bacteria in skin. This photodynamic therapy is FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate acne vulgaris or acne vulgaris that has not responded to other acne therapies.

The bacteria in acne release porphyrins. These are naturally occurring substances in the body, arising during the synthesis of of haem in red blood cells. When porphyrins absorb light of certain wavelengths, free radical damage is produced, and this destroys the bacteria. Blue light acne treatment uses a narrow-band, high-intensity blue light source that is readily absorbed by porphyrins released by the bacteria causing acne.

LEDs, Light Emitting Diodes, are unique in their ability to produce the same specific light frequencies as lasers without damaging tissue. LED Light Therapy is an FDA-approved cosmetic procedure that is gentle, painless, safe and effective. Treatments are non- invasive and non-abrasive, yet the blue light penetrates deeply into skin tissue. It stimulates gradual healing by increasing blood circulation and lymphatic activity. This effect has produced very positive results in the treatment of acne in customers of all walks of life.

What is Acne? Is it different from white/blackheads?

Acne is a disease involving the sebaceous glands of the skin and effects of 80% of teens and many adults. Acne occurs when oil produced by the sebaceous glands does not reach the surface of the skin and is trapped in tiny pores or follicles, creating white and blackheads. In both cases the bacteria P. acne thrives in the clogged follicles and when the bacteria reaches the surrounding tissue pimples/acne are formed.

Goggles are required during treatment with this device since blue light can harm the retina.

People can normally use light therapy in conjunction with other acne therapies, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ISOTRETINOIN (ACCUTANE). Please consult your dermatologist before combining Light therapies with other prescribed Acne medications/treatments
